Lorna House has good facilities but what differentiates it from other care homes, in my opinion, is the sense of community and caring that is fostered by the staff. This exists between residents and staff and between the staff themselves. There is a genuine sense of caring about everyone, which really does make all the difference. Plus, the food seems very nice! The level of care is also excellent.
Carers and all staff are always welcoming, smiling, and very professional. It’s a pleasure to visit and I consider them my 2nd family. They have made this a home from home for my friend. I cannot thank them enough.

DS first came to Aveland Court for a visit with his daughter, who had been caring for him at home. A retired nurse, she had devoted herself to supporting her father, whose frequent falls and sight loss were making life increasingly difficult. After spending time with our residents and team, DS turned to his daughter and said he didn’t want to go home. That very day, he chose to make Aveland Court his permanent home.
Although DS was blind, our team focused on helping him continue living a full and meaningful life. Working with the Sensory Team, we introduced Alexa and audiobooks so he could enjoy stories, music and conversation independently. His room was thoughtfully arranged to help him move around safely, while he loved spending time in the garden and joining one-to-one activities with our team and fellow residents.
His daughter remained a familiar face, visiting every day and enjoying quality time with her father rather than carrying the full responsibility of his care. When the time came, DS received peaceful, compassionate end-of-life care, surrounded by people who knew him well and cared deeply for him. His daughter later thanked our team for the kindness, dignity and support shown to both her father and their family.

JN was an extraordinary lady who lived independently until the remarkable age of 104. A well-known figure in Torquay, she shared her passion for local history as an official Agatha Christie tour guide, inspiring countless visitors with her knowledge and enthusiasm.
When she joined Aveland Court, we took time to learn about the life she had lived, not just the care she needed. We celebrated her love of Agatha Christie by accompanying her to the unveiling of the Agatha Christie statue at Torquay Harbour, where she attended as an official guest. It was a truly special day that honoured her lifelong contribution to the community.
Her two daughters visited every day, becoming part of our extended family as they spent time not only with their mother but with many of our other residents. Even today, they continue to visit Aveland Court—a reflection of the lasting relationships and sense of belonging that make Bliss Care feel like home.

TE joined Lorna House for a short respite stay after years of living with anxiety and depression. Her husband had cared for her with unwavering dedication, but the physical and emotional demands had become overwhelming.
Working closely with the Community Mental Health Team and her GP, our team developed personalised strategies to support TE, helping her engage in daily life while reviewing and optimising her medication. Gradually, she became more involved in activities, built relationships with those around her and began enjoying each day with renewed confidence.
Following her respite stay, TE chose to make Lorna House her permanent home. Today, her husband visits regularly, and instead of worrying about providing care, they spend meaningful time together in the garden or relaxing in the sun lounge. Their relationship has returned to what matters most—simply being husband and wife again.
We provide personalised residential care, dementia care, respite care and day care services. Our experienced teams work closely with residents and families to ensure care is tailored to individual needs and preferences.
Every family situation is different. If your loved one needs more support with daily living, is becoming socially isolated, or requires specialist care, a care home can provide safety, companionship and professional support. Our team is happy to discuss your circumstances and help you explore your options with no obligation.
Absolutely. We encourage families to visit our homes, meet our team, and experience the environment firsthand. We believe seeing the atmosphere and talking to staff is one of the best ways to make an informed decision.
Our fees vary depending on the type of care and individual needs. Generally, accommodation, meals, personal care, activities and support are included. We will provide a clear explanation of costs before any decisions are made.
Great care starts with great leadership. Choose a home where people work together with compassion, residents come first, and excellence is a journey embraced every day.
